• New Years Reflections

2018 – Here it goes, off into the distance as the ball drops. We pop champagne (or what’s probably more true - snooze on the sofa bc we didn’t quite make it), count down and look forward to a new year. It was a good one, not nearly as weird as it’s predecessor and full of personal and professional growth. The end of one year and beginning of the next, this time of reflection is always my favorite part of the year and I think so crucial for gratitude’s sake. So here it is... as I sit here with some hot tea and head full of memories, a recap of the year and thoughts for what’s ahead.

I entered this year with an openness to what 2018 would bring and not many of my own ideas or plans imposed on it. Well, the year brought so much that I never could have imagined including rewarding collaborations such as a gallery wall tutorial with Art and Light Gallery, design of one of my fave artist friend’s studio, and featuring artists on the blog with Art makes the Room . 2018 brought projects that I’m so proud of (Example AExample BExample C… and there are so many others before I hit Z), a Designer Day Camp for 12 year olds that made me remember falling in love with design, a publication of one of my first big projects from a few years ago and growth of the ALI team... enter Hannah, who is the flyest first mate on the ship, creative, supportive, uber organized, a go-getter and a lifesaver at all times.

The year also meant saying goodbye to our trusty condo with a home tour in Talk Mag and a new home that we are slowly but surely making our own. Kevin left the world of personal training and became and RN this year, took on a new job and we celebrated with a trip to the Bahamas that due to exhaustion was 7 days of drinking Bahama Mama’s poolside and taking long naps. It was a year of hustle but also a year of learning my own limitations. The days of being fueled by the word “busy” proved not so sustainable and 'no-work weekends' had to become a thing. I learned that I had to make me a priority for any other thing in my life to work and with a loving husband and supportive friends I leave 2018 grateful for growth.

2019 is sure to be unimaginable just like the past 365 days but I do know I want them to have similar DNA. Continued growth, continued contentment, and continued presence are my goals both personally and professionally. More self-care and less self-criticizing. Less work and more play. Less fear and more chances. More relaxed days with Kevin. More cuddles with Maisy. All what I dream for 2019.

But more important than any of that feeling-ish stuff above, we all know that part of a baller year is baller playlists, books, shows, movies, and podcasts so here are a few that fueled my 2018 in the style of ending your school year with a handwritten list of “My Favorite Things from 1st Grade”….

    Spotify 2018 Playlist

    AL
