• Style Sessions | Entertaining

We’re back for style sessions after a long hiatus and we’re talking all about entertaining... particularly, easy entertaining with style!

Being from the South, where friends and family come to visit you the moment you arrive home from the hospital and you’re expected to offer them a glass of sweet tea, hospitality is drilled into you from birth (literally). So, it’s in our blood and when guestS stop by either unexpectedly or life keeps you from cooking that 4-course meal you dreamed of to truly welcome them, I have some easy entertaining scenarios in my arsenal.

First up… Would you like some tea?

Not the sweet kind, but the kind in a pot that allows you to sit down, slow down and continuously fill your cup. About two years ago I stopped drinking coffee and after realizing that my life would not in fact end, I fell deeply in love with hot tea. I love the ritual of it, I love the accoutrements it allows, and I love sharing it with friends.

Whether a business meeting or a friend stopping by, I think there’s nothing quite like making a pot of tea, putting out some Danishes and having a long chat. The thing I love most about this is you only need a few things like a pretty tea pot, a selection of teas, local honey and a quick trip to the market for croissants (and possibly some whipped butter and jam) to make it happen.

Also note how much Maisy likes a coffee table height dining situation.

    Next, the infamous cheese board...

This is by no means the most amazing cheese board I’ve ever seen (or made) but it certainly does the trick when friends are stopping by for drinks after a long day… and its made with all things that are in my fridge all the time. Unfortunately, cheese is a main a favorite food group around here so we always have a few blocks on hand that are good for snacking or serving, along with some olives, pickled okra, and pepperoni – these things arranged nicely on a board and spreads in pretty tea cups makes it seem like you went the extra mile to welcome your friends in. Add a nice big pour and you’ve got a night that’s sure to please.

    Now we stock the bar...

The help-yourself bar-shelf keeps entertaining accessible -- featuring garnishes and mixers, your choice of glassware, and a wide mix that is sure to check the boxes of all your guests. This makes it easy for guests to keep their glass filled no matter whose caught up in conversation. Leaving this situation set up and quickly adding in fresh mixers and garnishes before guests arrive is sure to grant you with the title of 'host with the most'.

    Lastly, it’s game night...

...and we’ve got the snacks. Take a quick trip to the pantry, pop some popcorn, throw some Chex Mix in a bowl, grab some chilled glass bottle cokes (because they are just fun!) and, BOOM, you have a festive spin for kids and adults alike.

So now that the sun is shining again and we can all exit hibernation mode, we can start having social interactions again! Don’t get into your head and hesitate to host a little shindig with some easy, minimally effortful, style. The best thing is everyone will think you worked your booty off to make them feel extra loved!
